Members of Rock River Science Inc: The accomplishments of our 9 most recent seasons are extraordinary. Our field investigations, our geology and rock hounding, our mineralogy and our environmental networking have all reached heights of achievement beyond our expectations. Systematic field search techniques and a fortunate opening of veins and deposits have made of the last several field seasons the most successful ever. This was so even before 2017. The materials exposed after the flood of early November 2017 were abundant, of fine quality and often defiant of classification. This high specimen yield continued for all of 2018. A second year of the greatest finds! Now, in spite of the minimal ice and whitewater seasons of 2021 and 2022 and now because of the floods of 2023 all of these years have been years of continuous deposition and great finds of Sard, Chrysoprase and some Plutonic gemstones. We look forward to the trend continuing in 2024.
Much like in recent years we of RRS will continue to expand the aquifer areas that we are committed to covering on a yearly basis. This year we expanded our searches into various of the Rock River's tributaries at the Headwaters of the Rock River in Dover.
We take things higher !We have established a foothold as the very type of corporation that our core members recognized that we needed to become in order to fulfill our mission: an organization that produces tangible results for the river's environment, for the State and for the river's diverse communities.
The persistent dedication to our work that everyone has shown will be needed to continue meeting the mission challenges that we face. We are reaching the highest aspirations that we have for our organization. Let 2024 be a year when we again dedicate ourselves to taking things higher.
Our yearly Field Report is now written for our ANR Direct files. Our work is a leading source of field data giving the State an encompassing view of the field at both the Rock River and the Saxton's River.
The field report puts to good use our member's knowledge of these rivers' natural and human history and the current status of river and human habitat. It provides descriptions of the effects of hydrological activity on these rivers' landscape. It provides landscaping notes, geological observations and witness evidence of these rivers' most important watershed events.
A tight exercise in heuristics, RRS's field report is an insightful guide for the various authorities at Vt. ANR. From it scientists and planners can get substantive data in the form of descriptions of and rough quantifications of the events in the field. The report has become an indispensable investigative tool for the State's development of working definitions of the field at RR and SR. Well into the future state agencies, educational and research institutions and environmental non-profits will depend on this data for the management of the Rock River's environmental challenges. The State agencies and environmentalists get from us the help they need to prioritize current environmental violations and other flood plane concerns and to work on preparing fitting responses to future field events. Help us to continue this work!
We are looking for Vermonters who want to join our community of environmentally conscientious people. We believe that networking with other environmentalists is a necessity for those who want to carry out effective environmental action. Lets work together for the betterment of our region's environment, for our own enjoyment and for the benefit of future generations.
